pumpkin spice granola
And here is a space that has barely looked this clean and tidy for months, upon months. I love using my basement door now to enter the house and smile every time I see that silly little orange bag hanging there. Now, I just need to find a pretty fabric to recover that chair with and I'll be even happier walking into my house this way!

A few days ago, Gabriel and I had the chance to have lunch together after we went to confession. He was so happy to get whatever he wanted off the menu- a chicken club toaster and lime creamslush at Sonic. It was fun to just have the two of us together and hopefully we can make it a once-a-month lunch date.
Doesn't he just look so squeaky clean. Confession will do that for ya ;)
this is how my kids eat oranges.
maybe you're thinking, "That is so WASTEFUL!", who would have taught them to eat oranges like that?
well, I did.
I don't like the pulpy part, but I love sucking out all the juice from the orange!
Anywho... it looks like a lot of waste, doesn't it?
not if you're crafty.....
take those orange peels and throw them in one of THREE places:
a freezer bag...because you can use them to make potpourri on the stove or throw them in your disposal right while you're doing dishes (they'll defrost quickly) and then run the disposal for a lovely clean scent!
a pot with some water and cinnamon sticks and a couple of cloves, if you have them (instant room freshener!)
or your garbage disposal... I wasn't going to take a photo of that! half eaten oranges are funny/gross enough, don't you think?
To me, this photo is not only REAL, but really funny. two things that just happen to be in my pantry at the same time AND couldn't be more opposite.
Bob's Red Mill ORGANIC waffle mix (which happened to be at Big Lots- yay!)
and
Pop-tarts Spookylicious Halloween pop-tarts
So, this is "REAL" becuase I LOVE these two products right now. (seriously, those pop-tarts are ridiculously tasty)
I don't think I've ever bought pop-tarts before and when my kids saw them they kinda freaked out... in a good way. Oh, but I assured them that regardless of what they've "seen on tv" or at the school cafeteria (DON'T even get me started on that!)--
these are NOT breakfast food. They're dessert.
For heaven's sake, they're practically little pies!
So, we eat pop-tarts for treats (only one b/c that's the serving size) and for dessert. These kind are much better than the pumpkin pie variety. not a fan. Thankfully, I found them both at Aldi ;)
And that Bob's Red Mill mix, isn't that a handy dandy thing to have in my pantry. I love it and I actually whipped up some scrambled eggs and pancakes for my pregnant self the other day. Good for me! Finally, I wasn't starving all morning!!

Your comments on the poptarts reminded me that there are kids at Dean's school who must be packing their own lunch (or they have clueless parents) who bring multiple poptart-like treats as a meal. Washed down with chocolate milk I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteOH! You've reminded me...I used to love to make citrus potpourri for the home. And, I threw away my orange and lemon peels from my dessert last night! Man! Love the reminder though! Maybe I can do one with cinnamon sticks. Such a fabulous, autumny sort of smell.
ReplyDeleteConfession and out to eat--great date Mom! That's a good way to encourage healthy spiritual habits.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad for the "room freshener" idea - thanks! I like the confession picture. :)
ReplyDeleteOnly you would be able to tell us how to use half-eaten oranges. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat granola looks pretty tasty in addition to being pretty. I think I looked at the recipe, but sort of lost interest when I saw "wheat germ" as an ingredient. However, I don't doubt it's delicious, I just don't have any wheat germ.
Glad your birthday boy got a special lunch date with his favorite mom!
-Happy (I have to signature this because for some reason your blog will not let me comment under my google account! What the heck?
Ooook....so I never thought of doing any of those things with left-over oranges. GENIUS. Thank you for that suggestion as I am off to find a freezer bag right now for lunch tomorrow :)
ReplyDeleteAlso...I have been having a real craving for pop tarts lately. Back in the day I could put away those lovelies like a champ. Maybe I should fold and get a box? I like joining in on new/old favorites :)
God bless!
